Ren’s Pets is a Canadian pet specialty store with a 45-year history of unmatched customer satisfaction. With an ambitious – but attainable – goal of greatly increasing their retail footprint across Canada, the company recognizes the importance of implementing foundational systems and scalable, digitally empowered business processes that can not only accommodate but help fuel this growth goal. As such, they partnered with MRS to help them in their efforts to utilize digital technology – specifically SharePoint and Microsoft cloud products – more effectively and to automate core business processes.
Critical to any retailer is the need to integrate systems and processes between office, warehouse and retail locations. For Ren’s Pets, in the midst of cross-country expansion, this became even more paramount as operations grow in complexity and the level of stakeholders increases in volume. Example areas of concern for the company included information logging for managers and store employees (e.g. pertaining to product issues, out-of-stock products, special orders, etc.), company-wide knowledge bases, enforcement of procedures and best practices and dissemination of tasks. Furthermore, it was imperative for the solution to smoothly integrate and interface with the company’s existing ERP system for maximum efficiency.
Working together with the Ren’s Pets team, it was decided SharePoint Online was the optimal SaaS for this solution. The cloud-based solution provides user-friendly SharePoint sites and forms for store users to input critical data and information from any location (be it their head office, warehouse or retail locations across the country), automated workflows and alerts ensure user tasks are clearly defined and comprehensive document libraries create a deep knowledge base for employees across the organization.
The solution achieved desired results for Ren’s Pets by significantly strengthening communication between office, warehouse and retail locations, enforcing adherence to policies and procedures, reducing manual labor by automating critical business tasks and modernizing infrastructure with cloud technology.
